Here is a peek into the lab from all four corners of the room. I am ready for third grade’s first lab on inertia.

Usually there is one full moon each month.  A blue moon is defined as any time there is a second full moon during a calendar month, according to NASA.  The last blue moon was in 2012. The next blue moon takes place in January 2018 — and that year will be a double blue moon year.

I saw the Blue Moon in Hilton Head.

I just returned from Science in the Rockies with Steve Spangler. Steve is a leader in science education and believes engaging children in memorable hands-on experiences is the only way to get kids excited about science.  He also feels passionately about equipping teachers.  This was the best conference I have ever attended and I can’t wait to use the materials and ideas with your children!

Our ducks are two months old!

Third and fifth graders both learned about the impact of erosion and ways to prevent it.  When I went to check on the ducks over the rainy weekend, I saw evidence of erosion in several places.  So third and fifth graders, is this a problem?  If it is a problem, what can we do to prevent it from happening again?

I think these are roots growing out of this orchid. They are beautiful and actually sparkle. I have never seen anything like this and they appeared almost overnight.

I left Simon, our class turtle, at school. Mrs. Garrett, Mrs. Gammage, and Mrs. Sebesta have been feeding him and turning his lights on. I go once or twice a week and feed him an earthworm. He really misses everyone!
