Candling

We candled one of our duck eggs. Candling is a method used to study the growth and development of an embryo inside an egg. The method uses a bright light source behind the egg to show details through the shell.  Originally candles were used.  Looks promising!

Tree Frog

The nickname of this species of tree frog is smiling frog. Can you tell why? They are so much fun to watch! Maybe he is smiling because I just fed him crickets.

TICCIT

TICCIT (pronounced “ticket,” which stands for “Trees into Cartons, Cartons into Trees”) is an outreach and educational program for school-aged children held every year at the end of April to honor Earth Day and highlight the renewability and sustainability of paper and paperboard packaging. A team from Graphic Packaging presented this program to our third graders.

Fun Items

I promised several classes I would put the information for both of these on my blog. We used the ultraviolet bubbles in the Black Light Lab. The floating jellyfish is similar to the squids we used. (See previous post.) You may have called it a Cartesian diver.

Plasma Ball

The Plasma Ball is always a fun learning tool. It is a glass globe containing a low-density gas and a central electrode that creates lightning-like streams of light.
