Western Theme

Every school year, our KR Lower School chooses a theme. For the 2020-2021 school year, we selected a western theme-Blazing New Trails. I constructed cardboard cacti using the attachment methods that I taught my engineers last year. Click here to see that post. I used the slot and L-brace techniques. Painting and adding flowers will be next.

Solar Energy

I teach third grade scientists about solar energy as an alternative energy source. I hung solar lamps over my deck this summer and I look forward to them glowing each evening. The intricate patterns on the globes create beautiful light patterns.

Yoda

Yoda, our dumpy white tree frog, is living in my daughter’s room during quarantine. I often hear him croak in the evenings.

Birds Nesting

I noticed that a mama robin built a nest on a ledge outside my dining room window. The two nestlings hatched soon after I discovered it.

She often sat on her nest with her beak open. After some research, my suspicions about the reason her beak was open on these hot summer days was confirmed. Click here to find out why.

Another bird constructed her nest in an abandoned bird feeder. I haven’t been able to identify the species yet.
