Microscopy

Second grade scientists used microscopes to magnify parts of plants on prepared slides. The children were amazed at the beauty and the patterns that they could see under the microscope. They also learned basic parts of the microscope and how to focus a specimen under the lowest objective. Click here to review the parts at home. When you use a monocular microscope, both eyes should be left open. If a student couldn’t keep both eyes open, I instructed them to cover one eye.

Miss Clinton and I placed our phones over the eyepiece, and we were able to capture images of what we were observing on the prepared slides.
