Second grade is studying spiders from home. Click here and here to watch videos that they watched. Using their knowledge of a spider’s anatomy, they were asked to create new species of spiders.
There are not a lot of spider webs outside right now, but here is one way you can see them more clearly. If you suspect there is a spider web, spray it with a mist, and it will be much easier to see. In the first photo, there doesn’t appear to be an orb web. Do you see how an unsuspecting insect could be caught?
During online learning, fourth grade engineers were challenged with a STEM activity. Who can build the tallest freestanding tower with five sheets of paper and two feet of tape? The tape cannot be used to stabilize the tower. Can you think of another way to build the tower? Involve the entire family! Click here for sample directions.
As part of our online learning, third grade engineers were challenged with a STEAM activity. After they reviewed the ways to attach cardboard and watched Caine’s Arcade, they were asked to join the fun and build something out of cardboard. Always impressed with their creativity!
Mrs. Partridge and I are taking turns feeding the lab animals. I know they miss all the little faces they usually see each day!
The ladybug larvae have really grown! They will go through metamorphosis (egg, larva, pupa, adult). Yes, that’s a baby ladybug!
I brought the millipedes home. Billy and Jilly are doing well!
Two of my second graders are observing and documenting the metamorphosis of our caterpillars. Look at the difference between Friday and Monday. They certainly are very hungry caterpillars!
Second graders hustled inside to tell me that they had seen a turtle near the pond behind the Lower School. It is the time of year that we catch them laying eggs. We had a great discussion about the dangers of picking up or approaching snapping turtles.
