Cluster Map

Did you know that you can click on the cluster map to the right of the posts to see from where people have been visiting our blog? The two hits from Africa have been from Steven’s dad while he was on a layover from a flight to Nigeria and Dylan’s family when they were visiting family in South Africa. We have been learning geography as we find these places on the map. The N/A hits are usually from cell phones. Where will the blog go next?

Wonder Words

We have added a new feature in our classroom. When children read just right books, they should know almost all of the words in their book choices. However, if they come across a word they don’t know, they may add it to our “Wonder Words”.  We define the words together. They are very enthusiastic about this activity and their vocabulary is growing! I have a hunch that I’ll start to see these words in their written assignments.

During reading today, we defined gawked, cinch, instantaneous, unravel, and feeble.

More Precious than Gold

We have been learning to write excellent paragraphs with topic sentences, supporting details, and closing sentences. Our most recent paragraphs are about those things which are the most valuable to each of us.  Love the hyperboles (exaggerations) that are beginning to pop up in their writings. Come see more of these writings in our hallway.

Happy 100th Anniversary Girl Scouts

Today we celebrated the 100th year anniversary of Girl Scouts.  Do you know who founded Girl Scouts? The KRCS Girl Scouts celebrated this special day with some of the teachers who had been in scouting when they were young girls.  The girls presented a striking bird bath to the school at the end of the event.
